However, given the interdisciplinary nature of the Center for Genomic Medicine, the graduate student should have a background in one of the following areas: life science/medicine, bioinformatics/information science, computer science, or mathematical/statistical science, and should be able to draw on this background and have a passion for mastering the multiple disciplines that comprise genomic omics research. The ideal candidate will be passionate about learning various genomic and omics research disciplines.

The Center for Genomic Medicine is recruiting graduate students for the following programs
・Doctoral Program in Medical Sciences
For students who have completed a 6-year undergraduate course (Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Veterinary Medicine)
Those who have completed a 4-year undergraduate degree and a master’s degree in a master’s/doctoral course.
The completion period is four years
・D. Program in International Collaboration in Genomic Medicine at Kyoto University and McGill University
For students who have completed a 6-year undergraduate program (Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Veterinary Medicine)
For those who have completed a 4-year undergraduate degree and a master’s degree in a master’s/doctoral course
The completion period of 4 years or until acceptance of the dissertation
・Doctoral Course (Master’s Program) in Medical Science
Completion of a 4-year university undergraduate program
Completion period: 2 years
Those who wish to continue to the Doctoral Course in Medical Sciences to obtain a doctoral degree.
・Doctoral Course in Medical Science
Completion of Master’s degree or Master’s degree in Graduate School of Medicine
Completion period: 3 years
・Doctoral Course in Social and Health Medicine
For students who have completed a 4-year undergraduate program
Completion period: 2 years
Those who wish to continue to the Doctoral Course in Social and Health Medicine to obtain a doctoral degree.
・Doctoral Course in Social and Health Medicine
Completion of Master’s course / Master’s course
Completion period: 3 years

Although there is a system for working graduate students in the Department of Social and Health Medicine, please confirm with the faculty member of your choice whether you will be accepted at the Center for Genomic Medicine.

The entrance examination consists of a written examination and an oral examination.
The written examination will ask about life science and medicine for the Department of Medicine and Medical Sciences (for the 2022 entrance examination. Details of the entrance examination are subject to change, so be sure to check https://www.med.kyoto-u.ac.jp/apply/entrance_examination/ for the latest information.
The research at the Center for Genomic Medicine is interdisciplinary. It welcomes applications from applicants with backgrounds other than life sciences/medicine, but please note that knowledge of energy sciences/medicine is required for the written examination.
The entrance examination for the Department of Social and Health Medicine is different from that for the Department of Medicine and Medical Sciences, so please check the separate Admission Information website.
