The Second Kyoto Course and Symposium on Bioinformatics for Next Generation Sequencing with Applications in Human Genetics – March 10th-14th, 2014

Training course:

Date: Monday, March 10th – Wednesday, March 12th, 2014

Venue:
Seminar Room (1st floor), South Research Bldg.,
Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine
53 Shogoin Kawahara-cho, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto 606-8507, Japan

Description:
The 3-day course will provide a practical introduction to analysis of next generation sequencing data from handling of raw data to applications in study of human disease. As example of analysis techniques, methods to examine exomic sequence and RNA-seq data will be covered in depth. We will illustrate the use of sequence data in combination with methods for mapping disease genes in genetic studies.

Topics:
Introduction to Human Genetics
Basics of Data Manipulation

Variant Calling and Annotation (SNV, CNV)
Statistical Tests
Methods for Complex Analysis

Course instructors:
Peter Carbonetto, University of Chicago
Richard Houlston, Institute of Cancer Research, UK
Mark Lathrop, McGill University, Canada
Suzanne Leal, Baylor College of Medicine, USA
Louis Letourneau, McGill University, Canada
Jacek Majewski, McGill University, Canada
Jurg Ott, Chinese Academy of Sciences, PRC and Rockefeller University, USA
Pak Chung Sham, University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong
Joseph D. Terwilliger, Columbia University, USA
Daniel E. Weeks, University of Pittsburgh, USA

Attendees:
The course is aimed principally at advanced doctoral students or post-doctoral researchers who need to apply next-generation sequencing in medical studies. As places will be limited, applicants will be selected based on a description of their background and future research projects to be submitted when applying for the course.
The number of attendees will be limited up to approximately 40.

Registration fee:
1) Academic: 50,000 yen
2) Non-academic: 100,000 yen
